On Thursday morning, two people led police on a high speed chase in a stolen Jeep, near Columbia, Missouri. During the pursuit, one of the suspects shot at several big rigs, hoping to cause a large crash that would slow officers down.
The chase occurred around 3 a.m., after police discovered a jeep that was reported stolen at the Midway Travel Center. When officers approached the pair, the suspects opened fire and fled towards Interstate 70 in the stolen vehicle.
While traveling eastbound on Interstate 70, the suspects continued to shoot at police, disabling one of the officer’s vehicles. One of the suspects also shot at several tractor trailers, hoping to cause a large crash which would stop the officer’s pursuit.
The police report reads:
“both Moore and Buol admitted firing the pistol at officers and semi-trailer trucks from the stolen Jeep. They stated their intent when shooting at semi-trailer trucks on Interstate 70 East was to cause a serious accident, which would terminate officers’ pursuit of them and aid in their escape.”
After 40 minutes, the chase came to an end in Callaway County, when the Jeep ran out of gas. Officers arrested 25-year-old Russell Deane Moore, Jr., and 24-year-old Victoria Ann Buol.
They were charged with possession of a firearm with a previous felony conviction, however additional charges are expected. No one was injured during the chase.
