
A carjacker collided headfirst with a tractor trailer near Flagstaff, Arizona, on Sunday morning, sending both men to the hospital.
The incident began when a man in a Red Mustang collided with a white GMC SUV on southbound Interstate 17, near milepost 298, just north of Camp Verde. The man left the Mustang with a rifle in hand and carjacked the GMC that was involved in the collision.
Police pursued the stolen SUV for nearly 10 miles on Interstate 17. The suspect fired several shots towards troopers during the chase.
At milepost 307.8, the driver of the stolen SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-first into a tractor trailer. The impact caused the tractor trailer to crash into a ditch on the side of the road.
According to the Prescott News, the suspect suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital.
The driver of the Swift Transportation semi truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
A portion of southbound Interstate 17 was closed by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, but has since reopened.
