One man was killed after parking his vehicle on Interstate 205 in Portland, Oregon, and stepping in front of a tractor trailer on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the man parked on the side of northbound I-205 near the Foster Road exit and walked into the path of a moving semi truck shortly after 12:30 p.m. on New Year’s day. He was pronounced dead by the time paramedics arrived. The driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation.

A relative of the victim, Facebook user Heather Nolin, wrote this update shortly after the tragic incident.

“Very upsetting. Very sad. My uncle Mark killed himself today in the same place my Uncle Tom was found dead 20 years ago come this Easter. RIP uncle Mark. Please if anyone is having thoughts of suicide please call someone!!!” her post says.

The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened. The identity of the truck driver was not released. He was not physically injured in the crash.
