A man committed suicide by truck when he jumped off a bridge and was run over. It happened on Monday around 10:20 a.m. on Interstate 80/94 in Gary, Indiana.

According to NwiTimes, a 56-year-old man was driving a 2003 Pontiac when he stopped on the Colfax Street overpass, got out of his car, put up the hood and jumped from the bridge onto the Borman Expressway below.

Police reported that the man landed in the middle lane, and was run over by semi truck driver who could not avoid the collision. The trailer was hauling 43,000 pounds of vehicle parts at the time of the incident.

The man died at the scene. The truck driver was not reported to be injured.

Heavy traffic delays resulted as the interstate was slowed in both directions. Officials advised drivers to take alternate routes to avoid the area.
