22-year-old Dalen Paul was charged with intoxication assault after hitting a semi truck and falling 20-feet off Highway 225 in La Porte, Texas on Wednesday.
As he was approaching the split onto the Highway 146 northbound exit, he made a sudden lane switch to the southbound Highway 146 exit, and crashed into an 18-wheeler that was traveling in the lane.
The driver of the big rig was knocked unconscious after his truck was struck by Paul’s SUV. The semi truck continued to roll down the 146 southbound exit ramp, and finally came to a stop about a tenth of a mile after the collision.
The impact launched Paul’s SUV over the cab of the big rig and sent him flying off the highway. He landed on the ground below after falling more than 20 feet.
Amazingly, he was able to crawl out of his mangled SUV and was taken to Bayshore Medical Center where he was treated and then arrested.
According to Click2Houston, he had a blood alcohol level of 0.343 at the time of the crash.
The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was rushed into emergency surgery.
Paul was charged with felony ‘Intoxication Assault’. His bond was initially set at $10,000, but was raised to $30,000 on Friday.
