The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has now banned large trucks on Kentucky’s KY 151.

This two-lane road, in Anderson and Franklin counties, has experienced a series of CMV related crashes. The nearly 800 trucks that use this roadway daily will now be forced to find a new route.

According to Transport Topics, KY 151, also known as Graefenburg Road, has been removed from the National Truck Network. The ban took place on Friday, April 29, after the state received emergency authorization from the Federal Highway Administration.

Trucks are now required to take exit 53A on I-64 to U.S. 127 south. A mileage allowance from U.S. 127 and I-64 will enable trucks to reach local businesses which are located along KY 151.

The official action allows the temporary ban of vehicles with trailers 53 feet long or 8½ feet wide from traveling on KY 151. Commercial vehicles that fall under the size limits are exempt from the order.

The ban is not permanent at this time. For final approval, a formal notice for plans to issue a permanent ban must be submitted to the Federal Register.
