Interstate 94 in Michigan was closed after a series of accidents on Sunday afternoon.
The first crash occurred on eastbound I-94 at exit 41, and involved one semi truck and nine passenger cars.
The crash caused backups on the highway, which led to a much bigger second crash, involving six semi trucks and 44 passenger vehicles, according to Michigan State Police. This crash closed the eastbound lanes of the highway.
Shortly afterwards, a third crash took place on the westbound lanes, at exit 56, involving 12 more vehicles.
As a result, the highway was closed in both directions for most of the day.
