Interstate 77 north, near the Virginia state line, has been closed due to a crash involving a semi truck.
The crash occurred just before 4 p.m., near I-74 and exit 101.
According to the Mount Air News, the truck was carrying an unregulated water-based adhesive which spilled on the roadway, creating a “sticky mess.”
Northbound I-77 is shut down, and expected to reopen around 8 p.m. NCDOT posted the following information on the Traveler Information System:
Due to a crash, all lanes are closed on I-77 North near Exit 101 (I-74) west of Mount Airy. The road is expected to re-open by 8:00 PM. Motorists are advised to stay alert and use caution when traveling through the area.
Motorists must take the following detour:
Take Exit 100 (NC-89 East) to US-52 North. Take US-52 North to VA-148 West. Take VA-148 West to re-access I-77 at Exit 8.Last Updated* 4:55 PM 3/1/16
