A stretch of Interstate 75 in Sarasota County, Florida, was shut down on Tuesday morning after a fatal crash involving two tractor trailers.
It happened near mile marker 184 around 5:30 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor trailer hauling ice cream, driven by 27-year-old Matthew Simon, failed to slow down in time and rear ended another truck that was hauling beer.
Simon was killed in the crash. The driver of the second truck, 61-year-old Fernando Irizarry Rivera, suffered minor injuries, NBC-2 reported.
Photos taken after the incident show Simon’s severely mangled rig with tubs of ice cream scattered around it.
