A section of Interstate 40 in Albequerque, New Mexico, was shut down by police on Wednesday morning as they responded to an armed woman that threatened to jump off a bridge.

At approximately 8:30 AM (MST), police closed Interstate 40 in both directions at mile marker 154 (Unser Blvd).

“Officers are working on getting an armed subject into custody who has threatened to harm herself. I-40 is currently shut down in both directions due to the unpredictability of the subject. SWAT is on scene and a large area has been closed. Officers are talking to the subject in attempt to get her the resources she needs. Any drivers or pedestrians in the area are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route,” the APD wrote in a Facebook post.

At approximately 9:00 AM (MST), the APD posted another social media update informing users that the highway remains closed as they continue to negotiate with the woman.

“Officers are still talking with the female. Crisis Negotiators are working on getting the female the help she needs and to get the female to come down peacefully. The area remains closed,” they wrote.

Local news station KOB-4 released this video coverage from the scene.

Update (2/1/2017):

The woman has been detained by Albuquerque police and the highway has been reopened. APD has not announced if she’s facing any charges.
