Yesterday, 40 m.ph. winds and blowing dust made driving conditions hazardous in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Transportation was forced to shut down a 62 mile stretch of I-10 between U.S. 191 in southeastern Arizona and Lordsburg, New Mexico.

12 News reported that the closure started at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Both east and westbound lanes of I-10 reopened to traffic just after 7 p.m. Monday.

While roads were closed, eastbound traffic was routed north along US 191 to US 70 east in Safford. Westbound traffic was diverted along the same route, but in the opposite direction. The detour was 110 miles.

During the storm, a collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-10, involving at least two tractor trailers. It is unknown the number of other vehicles involved in the crash. No injuries were reported.

Officials remind drivers in a dust storm to not to wait until visibility is limited, and to pull off the paved roadway completely.
