The town of Mooresville, Indiana, has introduced a plan to ban semi truck traffic from passing through town.
The ban will be fully implemented by the end of 2015, as they already have an agreement in place with the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Council member Tony Langley believes that eliminating semi truck traffic will have a positive effect on the town’s economy. “A lot of times they shortcut and travel right through Mooresville and it causes a problem for our downtown businesses,” he said.
Some local residents and business owners have also come out in support of the plan. Paul Ford, the owner of Ralph and Ava’s Cafe in Mooresville supports the idea and told WISHTV reporters “I hope that my outdoor seating will improve because people won’t be afraid of being hit by a semi as they come around the corner.”
The ban would prevent trucks from traveling on State Road 267, which passes directly through Mooresvile, starting at the Morgan County line. Local deliveries, however, will be permitted to travel on the road.
Several adjacent counties, including Hendricks County and Avon County, plan to implement similar bans on large trucks in the near future as well.
