A stretch of Interstate 65 in Nashville, Tennessee, was closed on Tuesday after a man climbed on top of a highway sign during rush hour.

The highway was shut down around 3:30 pm, in both directions, near Rosa Parks Boulevard.

According to WIVB, many drivers left their vehicles and pleaded with the man to come down, but he refused to move.

Southbound drivers were eventually turned around, however drivers on the northbound lanes were stranded for more than two hours.

Local police were finally able to talk the man down around 6:00 p.m. He was identified as 46-year-old William Walters.

He was taken to a hospital for mental observation and was charged with obstructing a roadway and disorderly conduct.
