A truck driver has returned home after suffering seven gunshot wounds in a wild carjacking incident that occurred only four day earlier.
The incident was sparked when 23-year-old Ryan Arnold shot his pregnant ex-girlfriend and took police on a chase through Oglethorpe County, Georgia, before abandoning his vehicle and escaping on foot.
He eventually came across a logging truck with truck driver Don Davis inside. Arnold pointed a gun at Davis, who had just picked up a load of lumber, and commandeered the rig.
The gunman then ordered Davis to run over a police barricade that was set up to stop him. When Davis refused to press down on the gas pedal, the gunman put his foot on top of Davis’ and held down the gas. Davis was able to get his foot free, and then stuck it underneath the pedal, in order to prevent the gunman from accelerating. That’s when the 58-year-old truck driver was shot.
His son, Brandon Davis, described his father’s actions, “(Arnold) told my dad to run over the cop cars, My dad refused and told him no and tried lifting his foot off the pedal. But the gunman put his foot on top of my dad’s trying to keep the truck going to hit the cop cars. My dad was able to get his foot out from under the other guy’s and tried to hold the gas pedal up, but that’s when he got shot one of the times in the leg.”
After shooting the truck driver, Arnold plowed through the police barricade. Officers then opened fire, hitting both men several times, and were able to put an end to the madness.
Arnold was arrested and faces several charges including kidnapping with bodily injury and aggravated assault.
Davis was released and returned home on September 2nd, after suffering seven gun shot wounds in total.
Davis was required to have a two fingers amputated and suffered severe nerve damage, but his family says it’s a miracle he made it out alive.
