A pilot was arrested for flying a helicopter so close to the ground that it endangered passing vehicles. Because of their size, those put at most risk were semi trucks.
It happened on Saturday along West 192 in Kissimmee, Florida.
Deputies saw a helicopter flying just feet above vehicles on the roadway below.
According to Fox 13 News, officers waited for the pilot to return to the heli pad, but when he arrived, the man refused to turn off or get out of the helicopter. Officials were unable to approach the chopper while it was still in motion. The pilot then took off once again with his group of passengers, only to return to the heli pad minutes later.
He finally exited the chopper and spoke with officers. The pilot told authorities that his load was too heavy, forcing it to fly low to the ground.
31-year-old Thomas Vorstman of Orlando was fired from his job as a pilot at Orlando Heli Tours.
He was also arrested for operating an aircraft in a reckless manner and for resisting arrest.
