A trucker suffered serious injuries after someone threw a large rock off an overpass on Interstate 84 on Tuesday afternoon.
According to KGW.com, USPS truck driver Thomas Bennet was traveling east bound on I-84 in Portland, Oregon, when his windshield was struck by a large rock thrown off the overpass on Northeast 28th Avenue.
The rock shattered the truck’s windshield, causing glass shards to penetrate Bennet’s left eye.
“Glass flying in my face, my chest getting hit by a boulder, at first I thought it was a shotgun blast. I was checking my shirt to see if it was wet so I wasn’t shot.” he told reporters.
Although his left eye was closed shut due to glass shards, Bennet was able to pull over using one eye.
“They flushed out my eyes out three times, they did a cat-scan and found they didn’t get all the glass out, they had to go back and get the glass out of my left eye.”
Police didn’t find anyone at the overpass when they arrived, but collected the rock as evidence. It weighted approximately four pounds according to police reports.
Authorities say the perpetrator will likely face felony assault charges and reckless endangerment charges if caught.
