A charter bus traveling to a North Carolina Casino collided with a semi truck around 11:15 a.m. According to troopers, the truck driver was making a left turn onto Highway 515 southbound when he paused for traffic.
That’s when the bus crashed into the trailer, which was partially blocking the northbound lanes.
Initial reports indicated that at least 35 people were injured, but later reports stated that 43 bus passengers were injured out of the 48 present on the bus. Most of the passengers were reported to be elderly.
The bus driver was killed, and the condition of the truck driver has not been released.
Ten ambulances and several fire vehicles arrived at the scene to extract victims from the bus and to transport the injured to hospitals.
Georgia State Patrol reported that the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Fox 5, both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 515 have been shut down at Whitestone Road.
Major traffic delays have been reported while investigations are underway.
