A fuel truck crashed into the engine of an American Airlines Boeing 757 jet, for unknown reasons, at the Los Angeles International airport on Monday. The impact of the crash left the cab crushed, pinning the drivers’ leg under the steering wheel.
Around 4:20 in the afternoon, the Los Angeles Firefighters were called onto scene. They used the “jaws of life”, a piston-rod hydraulic rescue tool, to free the driver from his/her pinned state. Once freed, the driver was hospitalized. No passengers were aboard the jet plane.
Through updates on Twitter, Fire Department spokesman, Eric Scott, announced that there were no serious injuries and no leaks from the fuel truck.
It was believed that the driver of the fuel truck was an American Airlines employee but AA later claimed that the driver worked for a third-party company. The jet has now been taken out of service and investigations to find the cause of the crash are underway.
