Approximately 9,000 Freightliner trucks have been recalled due to a fire hazard caused by faulty HVAC wiring.
The recall was announced on April 1st and affects model year 2015-2016 Freightliner Cascadia trucks manufactured from March 24, 2014, through November 9, 2015.
Freightliner’s parent company, Daimler Trucks North America, said the Bergstrom Parksmart HVAC auxillary units were the cause of the problem.
According to the NHTSA, “There may be inadequate contact between the electrical connector on the compressor and electrical pins causing a high electrical resistance resulting in excessive heat.”
The company says dealers will fix the problem by replacing the connector caps free of charge. Owners of affected models will receive notice by mail in early May.
If you believe your vehicle may be affected, you can call Daimler Trucks North America’s recall line at 800-745-8000, using recall code FL-703.
