Four midwest states have joined forces for a week-long enforcement event targeting commercial vehicles along the Interstate 94 corridor. The enforcement blitz, called “Eyes on 94” will begin on Monday, December 4th and last until Friday, December 8th.
“Eyes on 94” is a joint effort between Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois highway police. Officers will be targeting big rigs exclusively, looking for moving violations that could increase the risk of a crash.
According to a press release by the Michigan State Police, the focus of the heightened enforcement effort will be: speeding, following too closely, improper passing, distracted driving, and improper lane use.
“This enforcement effort is a great example of the commitment by the MSP, Indiana State Police, Illinois State Police, and the Ohio Highway Patrol to reach our common goal of increasing traffic safety and reducing crashes,” said Capt. Michael Krumm, commander of the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
“This coordinated operation is an effort to increase awareness by means of high visibility enforcement on the I-94 corridor, which is prone to weather-related crashes this time of year that involves interstate commercial vehicle drivers,” the press release added.
Police will also be stationed at rest areas along Interstate 94, handing out safety educational material.
