CBS 12 did some digging into the driver’s history and reported that Rodriguez had a history a traffic violations, has been cited multiple times for improper truck maintenance and was arrested three times in the past for failing to show up to court

CBS also noted that according to a prior inspection, “the vehicle registered to Roberto Pelaez had several violations, including bad tires, brake system pressure loss and inoperable head lamps.”

Reporters went to Rodriguez’s house to try to get a statement from him but he wasn’t home and his mother-in-law, who was watching over his 3 kids and making dinner, didn’t want to appear on camera.

She did agree to talk off camera and said that Rodriguez is completely distraught that his trailer detached and caused such an accident.

She also said that her son-in-law is innocent and blames the company who hired him for their lack of safety standards.
