Anne Ferro, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), announced today that she’ll be resigning her position in August.
She will move on to head the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) as their new CEO and president. Ferro was appointed as FMCSA head by President Obama in 2009.
She will be most remembered for the 2013 hours-of-service rule changes, which received sharp criticism from truck drivers and trucking organizations and was nearly overturned after the senate appropriations committee determined that the FMCSA did not attain sufficient research on the safety benefits of the rule changes before being implemented.
Her announcement comes just weeks after the Owner Operator Independent Driver’s Association (OOIDA) CEO, Jim Johnston, called for her resignation and expressed that she has “clear bias against truckers and the trucking industry.”
