Last month unsecured axe got loose and flew off a landscaper’s truck, piercing the windshield of the car behind it. Needless to say, it caused quite a scare from the driver and passengers of the vehicle.
Officers say if the truck was traveling slightly faster, the ax would have been able to penetrate the entire windshield, creating a potentially fatal accident.
After the incident Massachusetts State Police made it a priority to crackdown on trucks with unsecured cargo. Their Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, which they call their “Truck Team”, wrote over 370 tickets and issued roughly $24,000 in fines, while putting 91 trucks out of service for safety violations.
