A fiery crash involving two semi trucks shut down parts of the Mass Pike in Charlton, Massachusetts.

It happened around 2:45 a.m. on Friday on the eastbound side of the highway. Two semi trucks collided, causing one trailer to roll over. The other semi truck, hauling paper and clothing, erupted in flames.

The damage was severe.

Mass Pike was initially shut down in the area while firefighters battled the fire.

The westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes have since reopened.

WWLP reported that traffic backups on I-84 and I-90 stretched for miles. Officials suggested that eastbound travelers use Route 20 to avoid the worst traffic. Drivers should still expect to add an additional 45 minutes to their commute.

Police anticipate several more hours of back-ups on the Mass Pike—which could carry on past 11 a.m.
