A police cruiser was damaged this morning, when a driver rammed into his vehicle during a routine traffic stop and pushed it into the path of an 18-wheeler.

The incident occurred on Interstate 95 in Newbury, Massachusetts, after an officer pulled over a white 2015 Mercedes-Benz that was driving erratically.

As the officer was speaking to the driver, the 83-year-old unexpectedly hit the gas, crashing into the officer’s vehicle and pushing back onto the highway, directly in the path of an oncoming Peterbilt semi truck. The police vehicle was significantly damaged.

The 83-year-old driver was taken to a hospital in order to treat minor injuries. He is expected to be charged with malicious destruction of property, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, and resisting arrest.

The 27-year-old truck driver was not injured during the incident. The officer was outside of his vehicle and was also unharmed.
