A pileup involving six cars, a motorcycle, and six semi trucks left one woman dead on a Texas Panhandle highway.
According to CBS DFW, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near Conway, 30 miles east of Amarillo.
Officials say the vehicles were headed east when a dust storm blew through Carson County.
The storm created hazardous conditions with zero visibility.
Trooper Cindy Barkley stated that Tammy Page of Medina, New York, was killed in the crash. She was riding in the back seat of a Chevrolet Cruz that ended up being pinned between two trucks.
Several other victims were taken to hospitals. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
DPS stated that one semi truck was hauling hazardous materials, but there was no leakage.
TXDOT said the accident closed I-40 westbound and eastbound for several hours. Westbound traffic was diverted onto US Highway 60. Eastbound traffic was diverted to US Highway 287.
All lanes reopened at around 6:30 this morning.
Police are still investigating the incident.
