In North Platte, Nebraska, two Colorado men were killed after a pickup truck collided with a fuel truck.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, around 7:30 p.m.
According to KDVR, the pickup was attempting to pass another vehicle on U.S. 83 when it drifted into wrong-way traffic, hitting the semi. The pickup driver was traveling at high speeds and was driving recklessly.
Witnesses reported that the pickup was headed northbound when it crashed into a southbound semi truck, head-on, causing a huge explosion.
Crews arrived to the scene of this wreckage.
The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as 28-year-old Shane O’Conner of Westminster. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His passenger, 32-year-old Craig Vanmeter of North Platte, Nebraska, was thrown from the vehicle and later died in a hospital.
The semi truck driver, 66-year-old Ralph Brandt of Ovid, Colorado, also died upon impact of the crash.
Authorities stated that the trucker was hauling fuel, and his truck was engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived.
Police say that the pickup was stolen. Officials also reported that methamphetamine, as well as various other drugs, paraphernalia, and alcohol were found.
