On Saturday in St. George, Utah, a woman driving a semi truck crashed through a concrete barrier and flew 20 feet down a ravine.
At around 5:11 p.m., officers and emergency crew arrived at the scene after receiving a report of a semi truck rollover near 6364 S. River Road, which is about 3 miles from the Arizona strip.
According to St George News, the female truck driver was headed northbound on South River Road after she left the Port of Entry at the Utah border.
St. George Police Officer David McDaniel reported that when the semi approached a small hill, the driver took the curve a little too wide. The semi hit gravel, and the driver lost control, causing the truck to smash into a concrete barrier.
First, the truck’s cab hit the concrete barrier, and it was launched into the air. Simultaneously, the trailer came crashing down onto the concrete barrier.
The semi caused extensive damage to the concrete.
The impact of the collision bent the semi’s frame.
The truck rolled on its side and slid down the embankment.
The truck driver was hauling dry goods, on her way to Family Dollar Distribution Center, located at 4815 S. River Road, located less than a mile away from the scene of the crash.
According to Officer McDaniel, the woman exited the vehicle on her own and told officers that she was uninjured.
McDaniel reported:
“She walked away from that crash. And she was wearing her seat belt at the time, which helped.”
Utah Highway Patrol dispatched a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Inspector to conduct an inspection of the truck and damages.
The truck’s damage was severe.
St. George Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol, AZDOT and the St. George Fire Department all responded to the scene of the accident.
Two tow trucks were utilized to remove the semi from the ravine.
Although no citations were issued, the crash is still under investigation.
