A suspect who stole a semi truck loaded with hazardous materials led officers on a pursuit across Southern California. The chase began around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday after the driver failed to yield at a turn in Apple Valley.

According to ABC 7, the truck fled from police at 70 mph on the 15 Freeway going southbound and traveled past Box Springs, Riverside, and Moreno Valley. The suspect continued onto the eastbound 60 Freeway and passed through Gilman Springs and Beaumont.

The chase led police down eastbound Interstate 10 near the Banning area. The driver then continued east and entered Highway 62 and headed into the high desert.

The pursuit was streamed on Facebook, with more than 180,000 viewers watching live.

Police from several different regions were in pursuit of the fleeing driver.

According to reports, the suspect was alone in the truck and has told officers that he did not want to go to jail.

At around 1:40 p.m., after a 3 hour long chase, the driver parked the truck and surrendered to police.

He was arrested and taken into custody.

Police reported that on Monday night, the truck was stolen from the company Advanced Chemical Transport — a hazardous waste firm.
