Yesterday in Hickman County, Tennessee, a crash involving a semi-truck driver killed a Tennessee Department of Transportation worker and injured three others.

TDOT Workers Pulled Over To Change Flat Tire

At around 9:45 a.m., April 28, the collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 156. According to WKRN, while two TDOT trucks were traveling to a job, one of the trucks got a flat tire. The crew pulled over on the side of the road to unload equipment when it was struck by a semi.

Police stated that, for unknown reasons, the semi-truck veered out of its lane and hit one of the TDOT trucks, propelling it into one of the TDOT workers on the ground. Next, the semi-truck managed to strike the other TDOT truck, causing it to roll over.

The crash caused the semi-truck to roll over.

The TDOT worker who was struck by the truck lost his life. The other TDOT workers and truck driver were taken to the hospital and sustained injuries.

There was heavy traffic in westbound and eastbound lanes due to the crash.

The Crash Was A Violation Of The Move Over Law

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the truck driver was in definite violation of the “Move Over” law, which requires motorists to move over into the adjacent lane of traffic, when safe to do so, or alternatively to slow down for emergency or utility service vehicles.

According to Fox 17, The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that the investigation is now a criminal one. The scene is considered a crime scene at this point due to the driver’s negligence.
