A tractor trailer got stuck on a low bridge in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on Monday afternoon, causing a road closure and structural damage to the bridge.
It happened on Covered Bridge Road, a popular shortcut for motorists between Route 70 and Crescent Road. According to NBC-10, the bridge will be closed for weeks for crews to assess and repair the damage.
The bridge was marked with a 12’6″ height clearance, almost a foot shorter than the typical height of a tractor trailer.
Responders deflated the truck’s tires in order to remove it from the bridge.
Damage to the structure was visible after the truck was removed.
There have been reports that the driver followed a GPS unit onto the bridge.
Mayor Chuck Cahn discussed the incident with reporters in the clip below.
