The highway was shut down for nearly 12 hours between mile markers 176 and 195, before finally reopening around 2 p.m.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, “three semis were caught in the slide but no injuries reported.” Many vehicles were stuck on the highway while waiting for crews to clear the area.

CDOT has advised drivers to avoid the I-70 mountain corridor if possible as additional avalanche warnings are in effect through Wednesday evening.
