The I-64 was shut down in both directions for several hours this morning when a cattle hauler overturned near mile maker 100 in Corydon, Indiana.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was taking to the University of Louisville Hospital. According to the Indiana State Police, the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and swerved into the median before overturning.
The semi truck was hauling more than 88 head of cattle. Several cattle died in the crash, while 8 others managed to run away. They were eventually caught in the surrounding areas.
The highway is now open in both directions as all cattle have been accounted for. Local farmers volunteered to process the meat from the salvaged load and vowed to distribute it to charitable organizations.
