A chain-reaction accident left a semi truck driver stranded inside his cab in Gresham, Oregon.
It happened around 2:30 Tuesday morning at the intersection of Northeast 183rd Avenue and Halsey Street.
According to firefighters, 24-year-old Benjamin Crawford of Gladstone was driving a white Honda Accord and was headed west on Halsey when he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road and struck a power pole. The impact sent the pole crashing onto a semi truck that was passing by.
Downed power lines scattered across the semi truck.
The truck driver had no choice but to remain in his vehicle until rescue crews arrived.
Firefighters, police and Portland General Electric crews worked to free the driver, but the process took over four hours. The driver was uninjured. Two passengers from the car were hospitalized with injuries. A witness who was reportedly overwhelmed by the scene was also taken to a hospital.
KGW reported that Crawford has since been released from the hospital. Charges are pending while police investigate the cause of the accident.
Due to the incident, around 170 people in the area were without power. By 7 a.m., almost all individuals have full electricity.
Police estimate that the area will reopen after 2 p.m. after crews finish repairing damaged power lines.
