A car driver’s inattentive lane switch caused a multi-vehicle wreck that left a big rig in a ditch earlier this week.
It happened on Tuesday, around 9:30 am, on the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Fairfield, California.
According to CBS news, a 21-year-old woman driving a Honda Accord sideswiped a Chevy Tahoe while attempting to change lanes. The impact caused both the Accord and Tahoe to lose control and plow into a tractor trailer driven by a 42-year-old Hayward man.
The Tahoe became wedged under the semi, which struck a Chevy Prism, before jackknifing on the side of the road.
The Tahoe was trapped under the truck for nearly 2 hours, with its driver still inside.
The condition of the truck driver has not been released. The Prism and Tahoe drivers suffered injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Alcohol has not been listed as a factor.
The big rig’s fuel tank was damaged during the collision and leaked approximately 30 gallons of diesel fuel into the creek off the roadside.
