Near Merritt, British Columbia in Canada, the driver of a small car lost his life after driving into a semi truck.

Officials were called to the scene of the accident just before 10:30 a.m.

Sgt. Mike Pears said in a news release that the driver of the car was headed southbound up a hill on the Coquihalla Highway when it slammed into the rear of a stopped semi truck that had been pulling a flatbed trailer.

Pears emphasized that:

“The commercial vehicle was pulled off the travel portion of roadway on the right shoulder with emergency triangles placed to the rear.”

The driver of the car was killed upon impact of the crash.

According to Global News, the reason for the collision has not yet been determined, but weather and road conditions were good at the time of the incident.

The truck driver was uninjured. The highway has since reopened.

The accident remains under investigation.
