A motorist has been charged in connection with a serious crash in Augusta County, Virginia, that sent a semi truck driver to the hospital over the weekend.
The Virginia State Police (VSP) says that New Jersey resident Mustafa B. Dogan, 22, has been charged with reckless driving in a crash that took place on Saturday, June 7.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, VSP said that a 2025 Volvo VNL tractor trailer driven by Florida resident Arpinder S. Flora, 42, was traveling northbound in the left lane of I-81 at mile marker 228 when the truck was struck by a 2025 Honda CR-V driven by Dogan as he tried to switch from the right lane to the left lane.
After this initial collision, both the semi truck and the Honda hit the guardrail of the bridge.
The cab of the semi truck fell off of the I-81 bridge into the Middle River, while the trailer remained on the bridge and overturned.
The Honda caught fire after the crash.
Flora was ejected and was hospitalized with serious injuries. Several bystanders entered the river to assist the truck driver, according to Augusta County Fire-Rescue.
Dogan was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
