A tanker truck overturned on interstate 95 in Laurel, Maryland, earlier this month, shutting down the highway for several hours.
According to Maryland State Police, a Ford Focus suddenly switched lanes and hit a Chevrolet Malibu on March 10th, causing 32-year-old truck driver, William Gorman, to swerve in order to avoid hitting both cars. The tanker then turned over and spilled 700 gallons of diesel fuel on the highway.
It took more than 7 hours to clean up the scene before the highway was reopened.
The driver of the Chevy Malibu was taken to the hospital while the others refused medical treatment.
After an investigation, Police determined that the Ford Focus was at fault and charged the driver of the Ford, 23-year-old Christopher Rhode, with reckless driving, unsafe lane change, and failure to control speed.
