Today in Oklahoma City, a part of the May Avenue bridge over the Northwest Expressway has collapsed.
KFOR reported that around 2:40 p.m., a semi truck that was hauling a forklift ran into the bridge. Because the truck did not meet the clearance, the forklift struck the bridge, and the impact caused the bridge to collapse onto the Northwest Expressway below.
The semi truck involved is with Sunbelt Rentals.
Officials have shut down the surrounding area. The Northwest Expressway is closed, causing massive traffic delays in the busy location.
Traffic is being re-routed.
Crews are on the scene conducting investigations. Engineers are currently evaluating the extent of the damage to the bridge.
Officials report that it could take months to repair the bridge.
Although no one was on top of the bridge at the time of the collapse, there was a car underneath the overpass.
Luckily that driver was able to escape and no injuries have been reported.
