Family members and law enforcement are looking for answers to the mysterious incident of a trucker gone missing.
36-year-old Tommy Wilson of Georgia had been missing since May 25.
The trucker’s rig was recovered at a truck stop, but there was no sign of the vehicle’s driver.
On Wednesday, police located Wilson’s truck at the Newton Junction Shell in Newton, Mississippi, but the driver himself was nowhere in sight.
Although the on scene reports indicate that one of the truck’s windows was broken, police initially stated that they did not suspect foul play.
The Clarion-Ledger reported the breaking news that a man’s body was discovered late Monday night around 11:30 p.m. by Newton police officers. The body was found in the woods just north of I-20 by the Shell station and truck stop.
Newton Chief Harvey Curry told media that the found body is believed to be that of the missing Tommy Wilson.
Newton County Coroner Danny Shoemaker stated at that the identity of the body has not been positively determined.
Officials are waiting on the autopsy report in order to release a cause and manner of death along with identification.
Shoemaker stated that this is currently classified as a death investigation until autopsy results determine whether it was a homicide.
