For those of you who prefer regional trucking jobs rather than long hauls, the recent boom in the oil and gas industry has created a huge demand for drivers.
Every time a well is drilled into, there is a demand for truck drivers who can transport the equipment, sand, chemicals, water, and other products.
According to an executive at Lone Star Freight, a Texas trucking company, there is such high demand for drivers that trucking companies “can’t get enough people.”
The hot spots right now are Iowa, Illinois, Montana, North and South Dakota, and Texas.
Many of these companies require seasoned drivers who have experience with flatbeds, heavy-haul and tanker trucks. Drivers certified in transporting hazardous materials are in even higher demand.
In addition to generous hiring bonuses and incentives, drivers working regionally will have the added benefit of going home every night (if you live in the area of course).
It’s nice to know that the trucking industry is getting back on its feet. Now if only the oil and gas industry can get the prices at the pump to come down…
