
A truck driver died after his semi plummeted into a bayou. It happened in New Orleans, Louisiana, around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
For unknown reasons, the semi truck careened off Interstate 10 East near Michoud Boulevard, came to a halt at a canal, then became submerged in Irish Bayou.
The tractor was underwater between two bridges, and the trailer remained partially above water.
Trained divers removed the truck driver from the vehicle.
A passing truck used its crane arm to assist in the process.
Rescuers performed CPR and paramedics transported him to a hospital where he later died.
The crash caused traffic delays in both directions of I-10.
According to Nola.com, eastbound lanes were closed to traffic and motorists were diverted onto Michoud Boulevard. Westbound lanes were reduced to one lane.
The identity of the truck driver and his official cause of death have not yet been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
