Two people in a pickup truck were taken to the hospital after rear ending a semi truck on Saturday — all without the truck driver noticing a thing.

The incident occurred on Interstate 5 in Ashland, Oregon, on Saturday evening.

When rescue crews arrived they found the passenger lying in the median, and the driver trapped inside the severely mangled pickup truck. According to KDRV, they were both taken to the hospital to be treated with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi truck left the scene after being rear-ended.

Aaron Bustard of the Jackson County Fire District 5 commented on the incident, “Sometimes they’ll notice, sometimes they won’t. Like I said, compared to a semi it is a smaller vehicle so whether they feel it or not, you know, down the road they may notice they struck something but not necessarily.”

Police were able to track down the driver of the semi truck about 8 miles away, in Phoenix, Oregon. He told officers he didn’t even realize he was rear-ended, but was still issued issued a “failure to yield” citation.
