Traffic is back to normal after a big rig caught fire in Cullman, Alabama.
It happened Tuesday afternoon when a semi truck’s brakes caught fire. The truck was traveling on I-65 and came to a terrifying halt near the public rest area at mile marker 300.
Emergency crews responded to the scene of the massive inferno that engulfed the semi truck.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before the more serious possibility of the fire igniting a fuel tank.
Dodge City Assistant Fire Chief Trey Doyle told reporters:
“We were fortunate to catch this in a timely manner. Given a few more minutes, the possibility the fuel tanks getting involved – and exploding – were very real. We jumped on it and got this suppressed before that happened. It’s what we do.”
The truck’s engine and cab were completely destroyed.
Cullman Today reported that the southbound lanes of I-65 were closed while crews responded to the critical situation. Ambulances were called to the area, but neither the driver nor the emergency personnel sustained any injuries.
An investigation was conducted and the wreckage took several hours to clear.
