Four seperate fires burned along Highway 156 in San Juan Bautista, California, on Monday and a semi truck was blamed for igniting them all.
Pieces of the semi truck’s diesel particulate filter were found on the road next to each blaze, which authorities believe sparked the fires, according to BenitoLink.com.
The fires were located about a mile apart, with the largest being approximately five acres.
Rescue crews were comprised of eight fire engines, a bulldozer, three aircrafts and a helicopter; all working together to put out the flames.
Hollister’s interim fire chief, Bill Garringer, told reporters, “At every fire, the arson investigators found chunks of [the truck’s] catalytic converter metal. It’s an accidental fire. It started in the weeds next to the road and in this case it got into a lot of the fences and one structure fire, which was put out pretty quickly.”
There were no injuries, as rescue workers were able to quickly evacuate the homes surrounding the fires.
