According to the American Trucking Association (ATA), the driver turnover at large fleets has risen above 100%.
The latest figures on driver turnover, the quarterly data released April 25 by the ATA, indicated that annualized turnover rate for large truckload fleets at 102 percent in the quarter.
Small truckload carriers’ turnover rate climbed 21 points from the third quarter to 89 percent. According to the ATA, a carrier with revenue under $30 million falls into the small truckload carrier category.
The turnover rate at less-than-truckload carriers rose one point to 11% in the final quarter, and averaged 11% for all of 2015.
As reported by CCJ, ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello commented that, “The rising turnover rate, coupled with anecdotal reports from carriers, shows what a premium there is on experienced, safe drivers.” He furthered that, “Those drivers have and will continue to benefit from rising wages and benefits.”
