After a decade of construction, the project along I-75 is finally coming to an end. By next month, motorists in Dayton, Ohio will have their highway back.

The initial goal was to have the project completed by September 2017. But ODOT’s prediction of finishing a year ahead of schedule has become a reality.

Now, all that’s left to complete is the finishing touches of its final phase.

According to WDTN “They’ve added three continuous lanes and centralized entrance and exit ramps to downtown.”  The changes will reportedly improve overall safety for downtown commuters.

ODOT spokesperson Mandi Dillon stated,

“We’re really happy with the outcome. We know that motorists have been patient. We know the orange barrels have been there for a long-time. We want to thank the motorists for their patience and we hope this interstate will be a good reward for that patience.”

As an incentive for completing the construction project early, the contracting company will receive $3 million.

The project, in total, cost $306 million to complete.
