A man from California was spotted driving a semi truck erratically and was expected to be under the influence.
A police officer’s in-car camera recorded the officers from several jurisdictions who joined in the pursuit of the out-of-control semi truck driver.
Watch the chase below:
According to MLive, Indiana State Police received notice about the driver’s risky behavior at 8:30 a.m. Central Time. He was spotted on traveling eastbound I-94 near Portage, Indiana. The truck was located at the 35 mile marker between Michigan City and Chesterton. Michigan law enforcement then stepped in to help stop the truck as it headed toward the state line.
The driver was seen colliding with several vehicles when police began their pursuit after him. The chase persisted for over 50 miles and continued over state lines from Indiana to Michigan. Michigan State Troopers joined in the chase at the state line.
In an attempt to slow the vehicle to a stop, a Michigan State Police Trooper shot a rifle at the semi’s rear tire.
That impact caused the tread to come loose from the tire, and the semi veered off the highway at John Beers Road, Exit 22 in Stevensville, then jackknifed. Even then, the truck driver refused to leave his vehicle.
Police sent in a K9 who bit the man. The man then punched the dog with such violent force that it threw the dog onto the floor. The driver was tased, and it took four or five officers to get handcuffs on him.
The man was then arrested and taken to the hospital with a serious medical condition.
He is expected to face felony charges this week.
