A truck driver recently created a petition to place USPS mail boxes in truck stops around America.
Although there may be more pressing matters in the trucking industry, this would be a tremendous quality-of-life fix for those who spend a majority of their time on the road.
The Change.org petition was created by Thomas Applegate and states the following:
Truck drivers spend weeks to months away from home. They have mail that needs to go out and sometimes the mail can’t wait until a truck driver gets home. The only option truck drivers have available to them is what is available at truck stops.
The USPS has either NEVER bothered to place a mail box or removed the box from the truck stops. I am lucky to find a truck stop with a mailbox to send post cards home, to pay a bill, or to send out a rebate form for a rebate that was offered at the truck stop.
I have personally stopped at over 20 truck stops in the past month and not a single one of them had a USPS mailbox for me to send my daughters a postcard.
I have been on the road for almost 6 months and it’s one of the ways I stay in touch with my children. I know I am not alone with this.
The USPS is governed by Congress and they must follow whatever is legislated upon them by congress. As such I have included the US Senate and the US House of Representatives in this petition as our congress are the only ones that can dictate policy to the USPS.
