In Panhandle, Texas, a huge fire ignited when two trains collided head-on.
In incident occurred on Tuesday morning at around 8:40 a.m., about 30 miles east of Amarillo.
Both of the trains involved are from BNSF, the second biggest railway company in the nation. According to News Channel 10, four BNSF employees were involved in the incident.
Black smoke from the inferno clouded the sky.
The collision caused a massive pile-up of train cars.
Metal burned to a crisp.
By 9:02 a.m., one employee was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
By 10:54 a.m., Panhandle residents east of SH 207 were evacuated. Residents were told to meet at the town’s courthouse or the war memorial.
The shifting winds near the fire pose a danger.
Emergency crews continue rescue efforts at the scene to save the other railroad employees.
Officials from Carson County warned drivers to stay clear of the area, east of Panhandle, off of Highway 60.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
